Finding an exercise you enjoy!

by Kathie Z
(Las Vegas, NV, USA)

Like a lot of people, I have never really liked to exercise. When I was in high school I played all kinds of sports, but that didn't really feel like exercise to me because it was fun, and you had to do it anyway.

Then I graduated and all of my physical activity came to a screeching halt. Last year, after my annual checkup, I noticed that the doctor described me as "obese." That was a serious reality check for me!

I always knew I was overweight, but I didn't really realize just how much. You don’t really notice the pounds going on gradually over time.

I decided to do something about it. I went to a local gym and checked out all the classes they had available. One of the personal trainers there suggested I give water aerobics a try. I know what you're thinking: What obese woman in her right mind would get in a swimsuit in public.

I felt the same way, until I noticed that a lot of the women in the class were overweight same as me, and didn't seem to care what they looked like in a swimsuit. That gave me the courage I needed. Plus, for some reason when you get in the pool you feel like no one can see you. Weird, huh? So, I started going to water aerobics 3-5 times per week.

Even without dieting, I ended up losing 35 pounds in less than six months!

When you see such good results it really motivates you to do even more. Now, I've started cutting back on my portion sizes and I'm seeing even more results. I have a lot more energy than I've had in years and I finally feel like an attractive woman again.

I never would have thought of water sports, but they’re great for those who are more than just a little overweight, because there’s no pounding on your body like from jogging and many other kinds of exercise.

I also know that I'm setting a good example for my boys and helping to ensure that I'll be around to drive them crazy for many more years to come!
